Now in its fourth year, We The Fest has quickly become one of Jakarta’s most anticipated music festivals. Get up on the Art Stage Jakarta




It’s an exceptionally artistic month in Jakarta. After last weekend’s excellent Art Jakarta event, now we get this weekend’s Art Stage Jakarta festival, which is taking place at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel from Friday to Sunday.  Like its sister fair in Singapore, Art Stage Jakarta, offers the public an impressive overview of Southeast Asia’s dynamic contemporary art scenes. Featuring works from 60 local and international galleries spread out over 3,244 square meters of exhibition space, you’re sure to find something that speaks to you. Entry is free.

Get immersed in the incredible World of Ghibli

Hardcore fans of master animator Hayao Miyazaki have been highly anticipating the World of Ghibli exhibition, which is running from Aug 10 – Sept 17 at the Ritz Carlton Pacific Place Ballroom.  An exhibition illustrating the illustrious history of Miyazaki’s legendary Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli as well as their painstaking hand-drawn production process. Attendants will be able to see original sketches and illustrations from Studio Ghibli’s directors and its animators, a replica of Miyazaki’s animation room and desk,
-scene installations of Studio Ghibli’s well-known characters and architectures, such as Howl’s Moving Castle and the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro. If you’re looking to imbibe something truly amazing this weekend, you might want to check out the Cocktail Omakase event at Cork and Screw Grand Indonesia (on Friday) or Union (on Saturday). Orchestrated by Takuo and Sumire Miyanohara, the husband and wife team behind Bar Orchard Ginza (ranked 25th in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2017), this special liquid omakaze will highlight their talent for marrying experimental techniques and age-old traditions. Even if you can’t get a seat for their omakase, you can still try out the couple’s bespoke cocktail creations, which will be available to order at the bars of Cork and Screw and Union on these nights only.




Laugh out loud at this All-American stand-up comedy show (Friday night)

While it’s hard to remember in the midst of President Trump’s reign, America has brought the world a lot of good things, too, including stand-up comedy. Mad About Comedy is bringing three Yanks to Jakarta for a special show at the American Club this Friday including Cambodia-based Sam Thomas, Drew Fralick (winner of both the 2015 Hong Kong International Comedy Competition and the 1996 Decker Elementary School talent show) and Jakarta International School Alum Melanie Maras, who represented Indonesia in the finals of the “Funniest Person in the World” competition.
