What was arguably one of the biggest sex scandals in Indonesia involving singer/actress Gisella Anastasia is finally entering its final chapter, as two men (among probably millions of others) found guilty for sharing her sex tape have been sentenced to prison.
In a virtual trial held by the South Jakarta District Court yesterday, the two male suspects — identified by their initials MN and PP — were sentenced with nine months in prison and a IDR50 million fine in lieu of additional three months’ imprisonment.
PP’s attorney Roberto Sihotang said he’s considering appealing against the sentence as neither his client nor MN were the original leakers of the video.
The case prosecutor previously demanded that MN (22) and PP (24) be sentenced to one year in prison. According to reports, both are not responsible for the initial circulation of the video. However, Indonesia’s controversial Information and Electronic Transactions Act (UU ITE), with which they were charged, criminalizes those who simply share illegal content online even if they did not create it.
Meanwhile, Gisel, who was charged with violating Indonesia’s ambiguous pornography law despite her claim that the sex tape was made for private use, is required to report twice a week to the police along with Michael Yukinobu de Fretes, who was her partner in the video. The pair may face up to 12 years in prison each.
