Though most Indonesians are usually into thick crust pizza (attributable to the early popularity of Pizza Hut and Domino’s), there has been a growing trend of thinner NY-style pizza in recent years. That demand for large, hand-tossed thin crust and crispy-yet-soft-centered pizza goodness has led to the opening of a new store specializing in the variety in one of Jakarta’s hippest neighborhoods.
Pizzza Dealer (yes, with the extra ‘z’) is located at the trendy “neighborhood living space” Pelaspas in Dharmawangsa, South Jakarta. The joint is unmissable as it’s located right by the entrance of Pelaspas.
The NY-style pizza booth is operated by the guys behind some of Pelaspas’ most famous occupants, namely Taco Local and Bao Ji, and micro-bar Slits.
Coconuts recently dropped by Pizzza Dealer unannounced and had a slice of the Pepperoni pizza (IDR30K, before tax). While we went in without any preconceptions about Pizzza Dealer, the slice pleasantly packed a more herb-y punch, at least compared to other NY-style pizza dealers (pun intended) in town.
The prices at Pizzza Dealer vary from IDR25K (OG Slice, the classic marinara and cheese pizza) to IDR37K (Holly Cheesus, with Bechamel, cheddar, mozzarella, blue cheese, and parmesan) per slice, with whole pies starting from IDR190K to IDR270K for the same variants mentioned. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try the Choke (Bechamel, artichoke, anchovy, cheddar, and Mozzarella) or the sweet Glazed (cream cheese, mixed berries, and honey) pizza.
Other than pizza, Pizzza Dealer offers the Meatballs Parm (IDR45K), a rustic toast topped with meatballs, cheese, and marinara sauce. All prices are before tax.
Although it’s only been open since late December, Pizzza Dealer seems to already be quite a hit judging by the long queues for its pizza. We imagine those queues would stay long in the future if the joint maintains its quality along with the hype.
We feel that Pizzza Dealer can definitely compete with early, notable players in the game, namely Pizza Place at Como Park Kemang, Sliced Pizzeria in Terogong and Crumble Crew SCBD, all also located in South Jakarta.
