It seems that Jakarta will never run out of options when it comes to F&B offerings, including those catering to plant-based diets. Now, the capital welcomes a dedicated plant-based space called Mad Grass, where one can attend community gatherings and try the hippest vegan delicacies.
Located in South Jakarta’s Cipete neighborhood, Mad Grass is a creative compound that also houses a plant-based cloud kitchen — the first in the capital. The compound features space to host all kinds of events, from workshops to outdoor dining, while also offering food deliveries from its cloud kitchen for vegans and non-vegans alike.
Mad Grass is currently in the second week of its soft opening period, during which you can enjoy a variety of plant-based takjil (light snacks to break the fast), shop eco-friendly goods, and take part in different talk shows and cooking demos from this Thursday to Sunday (April 29 – May 2). For this week, there’s a special cooking demo on how to make vegan kaasstengels, a popular Dutch-influenced cheese cookie usually enjoyed during Eid in Indonesia.
Besides their soft opening events however, Mad Grass only accepts online orders and takeaways from its cloud kitchen at the moment. Based on a quick lurk on Mad Grass’ Instagram page, it has only one permanent tenant called Treats Vegan so far, which offers sweet beverages and English muffin breakfast sandwiches.
If you’re planning to join the vegan festivities at Mad Grass this weekend, don’t forget to keep adhering to health protocols: wear your face mask when not eating and maintain physical distance from other visitors. Don’t forget to bring your own bag, food container, and tumbler to reduce waste!
