Those of you who adore the Parisian chic and Tokyo’s coolness embodied by Maison Kitsuné will be delighted to hear that it’s finally landed in Jakarta. The French-Japanese lifestyle brand has just opened its first Indonesian outlet at the heart of Jakarta so you won’t have to fly overseas anymore to have a cuppa or take Instagram-worthy photos of its café.

The store consists of Café Kitsuné, the chic cafe/bar/restaurant as well as a Maison Kitsuné boutique at SCBD’s newest mall, ASHTA at District 8. During its development, ASHTA had hosted a number of the hippest events in the capital under its previous name, District 8, including last year’s BrightspotMRKT and Urban Sneaker Society.

At Café Kitsuné, you can enjoy your go-to coffee or iced matcha, along with sweet and savory treats created by Chef Yuji Tani and adapted to local flavors by Chef Carottama Prasetya. It also doubles as a bar, so there’s a number of options for cocktails. As we haven’t had the chance to check out the place ourselves, we sure hope they’ve brought the café’s signature fox-shaped biscuits to accompany our coffee — as the animal being the titular kitsune in Japanese.

Seeing the overall vibe of the store, Café Kitsuné seems suitable for any occasion from brunch, afternoon tea or coffee, or dinner with your loved ones. Expect a cool playlist to accompany your visit at the store, as it’s one of the things that Maison Kitsuné excels at.

We imagine you might be eager to be among the first people to hang out at Café Kitsuné, but as we’re still in the middle of a pandemic — don’t forget to be careful and try contacting the restaurant first before your visit.

The Jakarta store is the second Café Kitsuné branch in Southeast Asia, as it previously opened in Bangkok last September. There are currently 13 Café Kitsuné outlets around the world, with locations in Tokyo, Paris, Seoul, New York, to name a few.

Maison Kitsuné was founded in 2002 by Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki. Gildas was an artistic director of French electronic duo Daft Punk, and Masaya’s background involves design and architecture. There are three sub-brands under the company: fashion brand Maison Kitsuné, music label Kitsuné Musique, and Café Kitsuné.
