Ever find yourself running out of takeaway or home delivery ideas? Fret not, as one account has emerged to help you navigate the ever-growing local F&B options popping up on Instagram.
@garagarakarantina, which literally translates to “because of quarantine,” is an Instagram page solely dedicated to documenting the many up-and-coming F&B businesses that have turned up in the Greater Jakarta Area since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The account was created around mid-May, and has been slowly gaining an audience as well as partnership interests ever since.
We were particularly drawn to its Instagram bio, “Let’s not ‘make the most’ out of this time. Let’s just order some from those who have,” which we thought perfectly encapsulates the need to support small businesses at this uncertain time.
@garagarakarantina appears to take great care in keeping its feed tidy through meticulously designed content — one brand gets a row of three posts each, which consist of its logo and patterns of its signature item. If you open and swipe each post, you can see nicely decorated photos and videos of food or beverages that appear professionally taken. The reviews are all written in English, through which readers can feel the writer’s passion for good food and great understanding on what makes something worth trying.
There are a wide variety of F&B businesses featured on @garagarakarantina, from selections of vegan treats, homemade baked goods, makanan rumahan (home cooking), to trendy drinks. We also spotted several hip items, as in those that have been gaining popularity during the pandemic, such as baked spaghetti and Nashville hot chicken.
It’s worth noting that many of the featured brands are not available on your favorite app-based food delivery services, as they’re mostly homemade and can only take limited orders at a time.
If you’re new to the home F&B industry and want to get your brand featured on @garagarakarantina, you can simply hit it up on Instagram with a DM. However, you should not expect to get an immediate response as the account is currently swarmed with requests, highlighting its ever-growing popularity amid the pandemic.
