As nobody has come forward to claim a white Lamborghini from police custody in Bali (along with its overdue taxes and fines), we now have even more questions than answers regarding the true ownership of the supercar.

The white Lambo shot to infamy after photos of its custom “DOMOGATSKY” license plate went viral on social media, leading to its confiscation by the Bali Police. The license plate is a nod to Russian national Sergei Domogatsky, who is believed to have “owned” and driven the car in Bali.

The vehicle’s documents actually showed that the supercar was first registered to a Bandung-based trading company called PT Eco Sinergi Teknologi, as confirmed by its owner, Febrian Agung.

“The car was sold on Oct. 12, 2021. However, it was not purchased by Sergei. I sold it to someone in Karawang. Perhaps he sold the car again until it is now in Bali,” Febrian said, as quoted by detikJabar.

Febrian said that he immediately blocked the car’s vehicle registration document (STNK) and original license plate, D 1 FEB, after he sold it. It’s likely that the vehicle was not legally registered since the sale, as the most recent documents on record only show previous ownership by PT Eco SInergi Teknologi and no one else.

“The car needed to officially change ownership to a KTP-holding (national ID card) Indonesian in order to pay the taxes. If [Domogatsky] wanted to pay under my company’s name, then it is not possible because I have blocked [the STNK],” Febrian said.

Febrian added that he takes no issue with reports linking his company to the Lamborghini, as he says that he has clarified the issue with the Bali Police.

Had Febrian not blocked the STNK, the car’s registration would have expired in July 2022, with overdue payments in taxes and fines that amount to IDR104,613,900 (US$6,797).

Police say a Russian man named Sergei Domogatsky, whose name is on the customized license plate and is believed to have driven the car in Bali, reportedly fled to either Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

Authorities tracked down and confiscated the conspicuous sports car on March 9, and called on the owner to retrieve the vehicle after they settled the penalties for traffic violations.

Bali Police are in the midst of a crackdown on traffic violations, particularly those carried out by foreigners, with offenses ranging from using customized license plates to driving without a helmet to driving without a license.
