A Thai football commentator has issued an apology after making some disparaging remarks about Bali United during the team’s match against rival Thai club, Chiangrai United.
Auttponn Kaithing says he’s sorry–to every Indonesian–and it won’t happen again after getting attacked by netizens over his “one-sided” commentary job on the Asian Champions League Match between the two teams.
The commentator posted an apologetic picture of himself with his head bowed and his hands clasped, on Thursday last week after Bali United ended up losing to the Thai team just a couple of days before (2-1) on Jan. 23.
He published an additional photo of just the text of his apology in a second post:
Kaithing reportedly referred to a Bali United player as a “cheater from Indonesia” when a Thai player got a penalty and to add insult to injury, made an additional comment about Bali’s uniforms.
A number of Thai netizens were embarrassed about the ordeal, apparently attacking Kaithing and apologizing to Bali fans profusely.
But it being the internet and all, things turned pretty ugly for Kaithing, who has been facing the wrath of tons of Indonesian netizens, even after issuing the apology. There is quite the sh*tstorm of offensive comments on the two posts saying “b*tch”, “f*ck you!”, “shemale”, “ladyboy”, and other expletives.
*While Kaithing was obviously totally in the wrong with his coverage of the match, we have to say using derogatory terms against the LGBT+ community is not cool with us either.
