Telkomsel rolls out 4.5G service in Bali

Indonesian mobile provider Telkomsel is trying to speed things up in Bali.

The telecommunications giant has reportedly just introduced 4.5G to Bali as of Tuesday, after also previously rolling out the service in eight other Indonesian cities: Medan, Jakarta, Bandung, Mataram, Pontianak, Makassar, Manado, and Ambon.

“The application of 4.5G technology is a step towards the implementation of 5G technology in Indonesia,” said Ronny Arnaz, Telkomsel Area Java-Bali VP ICT Network Management, as quoted by Republika

The new speed at 4.5G will be capable of (keywords there) of transmitting data two times faster than 4G technology, according to Arnaz.

However, if you’re looking to try out Telkomsel’s touted faster speeds, you’re going to have to wait until 2017 when compatible devices hit the local market, the VP added.

“Now, there aren’t devices yet, but in 2017 devices will be sold on the market and people will become more comfortable using our mobile network.”
