Slow Season: Boats to Lembongan are pretty empty, says Sanur harbormaster

The amount of travelers making their way from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan has apparently plummeted in the past month.

Nusa Lembongan, a small island off the east coast of Bali, along with its neighbors Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida, are favorites amongst divers and tourists looking to put a bit off distance between themselves and the busy mainland.

But with the rains and the slow tourism season drag before Christmas and New Year holidays, fast boats bringing tourists from Sanur to Lembongan have been pretty empty, according to Sanur Harbormaster,  AA Ngurah Suteja.

“Since the middle of November, I have seen far fewer passengers than in previous month. aUsually the seats in the boats are always full, but now there are many empty seats,” Suteja told Tribun Bali on Monday.

It probably also doesn’t help that Bali’s questionable fast boat safety has been highlighted this year with a flipped boat in Nusa Penida and another boat’s explosion in Gili—though we’re sure things will eventually pick back up again when weather improves and high season comes.

Suteja apparently did not give out any stats about the down time, but he assured local newspaper Tribun Bali that the data backs him up showing boats haven’t had much business lately.

“Yes, each departing boat shares their data with us,” he added.
