Search on for Chinese tourist who allegedly drowned when boogie boarding in Kerambitan, Bali

News has broken that a Chinese national has drowned off Pasut Beach, Kerambitani in Bali on Monday evening and a search is on for the tourist’s body.

The tourist has been identified as 20-year-old Xie Zihao. Xie reportedly drowned around 6 pm on Monday.

Kerambitan police chief I Wayan Suana acknowledged the drowning before the local press.

“It’s been reported that one person has drowned, officers are still out in the field. The search is still on. I am going to go to the scene,” Tribun Bali quoted Suana as saying on Monday.

Details are thin at this time, but it’s been reported that Xie had been out  at the beach along with two other friends—who apparently both managed to escape.

Chairman of the Tabanan chapter of the Indonesian Fishermen’s Association, I Ketut Arsana Yasa confirmed to the media that Basarnas (search and rescue) are still searching for the Chinese tourist, despite rainy and stormy conditions.

Yasa said the Chinese tourist appeared to have been boogie boarding. It’s understood that the leash to Xie’s boogie board snapped and the board washed ashore, according to Yasa.

“The boogie board has washed ashore. But the victim drowned. At the moment, (Xie) is still unaccounted for,” Yasa said.
