Please be careful out there, people.
Marina Konstensko, 24, was killed while driving a motorbike and plunging 30 meters to a river in Ubud, Gianyar over the weekend.
Police say Kostensko took over the vehicle from her travel companion who had briefly stopped to check Google Maps for navigation.
Ubud Police Chief I Gusti Ngurah Yudistira said that Konstensko lost control of the vehicle and plunged down into Tuyung River at approximately 11am on Saturday. Konstensko’s companion, who was identified only as Aleksandr, was immediately heard screaming for help.
“Witness Aleksandr initially rode the motorbike and the victim was the passenger,” Gusti Ngurah said.
“It was suspected that the victim was not able to drive well.”
The pair had planned to visit art space Parq Ubud that day but had gotten lost.
Kostensko’s body was retrieved at around 11:50am and was transported to Ari Santi Ubud Hospital.
It was the second death of a tourist on a motorbike reported last week, after Ukrainian man Denys Rozanov was found dead in a canal adjacent to the Canggu shortcut last Monday.
