A Ukrainian citizen was found dead at the infamous Canggu shortcut this morning, police said, after he lost control of his motorbike and fell off a bridge.

North Kuta Police Chief Putu Diah Kurniawandari said in a statement sent to Coconuts Bali that the victim, 33-year-old Denys Rozanov, was found in the water underneath the bridge at approximately 8am. Police suspect that Rozanov hit his head against a concrete structure on the way down, which likely killed him.

Police identified the motorbike to be a rental from a store in Canggu.

“We evacuated the body from under the bridge,” Diah said.

Rozanov’s body was taken to Sanglah General Hospital.

According to Diah, the victim suffered fatal cranial injuries and was believed to have been dead for four to five hours before his body was found.

I Wayan Seloka, a spokesperson at the North Kuta Police told Coconuts Bali that Rozanov likely wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

  1. Well this is another tragic Bali story. We all think he was drunk maybe, but the truth is that a car or other motorbike may have caused him to drive off the road. The impact damage to the front of the bike shows that speed was a factor, bc the front tire is smashed in with great force. Perhaps guard rails may be helpful, but who will pay for that? All the wealthy Bule’s moving into Canggu or all the Locals making money from the Bule’s? My thoughts and prayers to the family of this man who died. It is never good to learn that people die from things that could have been avoided. Not to much good things happen at night in Bali, better to stay inside than drive on the roads.
