A Russian man reportedly died not long after boogie boarding at Seminyak Beach yesterday. Though local authorities managed to bring him to a hospital while he was still alive, he was declared dead upon arriving at the medical facility.

According to Muh Nurul Yaqin, an officer from the Denpasar Police, the incident occurred at 11.30am yesterday. The foreigner, identified as Alekseev Yuri, reportedly appeared weak when a lifeguard at the scene caught sight of him.

“He appeared weak at the beach, so he was then carried to a long chair. Once he was seated, he lost consciousness,” Yaqin said, as quoted by Kompas.com.

Yaqin explained that he still had a heartbeat as he was about to be taken to the Siloam Hospital in Kuta. But soon after he arrived at the hospital, which was around 11.45am, the doctors declared him dead.

It is not yet clear what caused his death, but Yaqin told Detik that he might have experienced extreme fatigue after being swept away by the currents while he was on the boogie board.
