A Russian drug suspect, identified as the 35-year-old Andrey Spiridonov, managed to escape from the Bali Police on Saturday. According to police, the detainee ran away after asking to go to the toilet. Officers later found his handcuffs in the bathroom on the second floor of Bali Police Logistics Bureau.

Spiridonov was arrested on Tuesday morning last week in a parking lot in Bali’s capital of Denpasar.

“On Saturday at dawn, the suspect asked he be brought to the restroom upstairs. He was escorted by an officer while his arms and legs were still handcuffed. The officer who waited outside the restroom heard  a ‘buk’ sound. They later found out that the suspect had jumped out through the restroom’s ventilation,” Bali Police’s Public Relations Unit Chief, Grand Commissioner Hengky Widjaja told reporters on Sunday, as quoted by Detik.

It’s still unknown whether Spiridonov uncuffed himself somehow or if the escorting officer did it for him instead. After his bathroom escape, police said he was seen on the roof of a nearby resident’s house, which he had apparently damaged as a result of his jump, but still managed to get away.

Police are still pursuing Spiridonov, who reportedly works as a psychologist, and he has been added to the Bali Police’s most wanted list.

“Places being targeted by the police are, among others, accommodations that he is thought to have used while staying in Bali and gateways of the island such as Padangbai and Benoa Ports, as well as Ngurah Rai Airport,” Hengky said.

Police are reportedly also scouring yoga studios in Ubud area because Spiridonov reportedly joined several classes there during his stay on the island.

Spiridonov was arrested for allegedly importing N-Dimethyltrytamine (DMT), an illegal hallucinogenic narcotic which he said he ordered online and had delivered from the Netherlands.
