A python measuring about five meters in length was evacuated from the roof of a house in Pedungan, Denpasar on Tuesday morning.

Local resident Nyoman Sumanata, 35, who helped capture the snake, said it took a team of six people to move it.

“It was so heavy when I pulled it. I estimate that it weighed nearly 70 kilograms, “ Sumanata told Tribun Bali at his home on Tuesday afternoon.

It took two hours to catch snake, as it had wrapped itself around some wood in the roof and didn’t want to budge from its hideout.

Though pythons are not venomous, Sumanata expressed his apprehensiveness towards the snake, citing a video that went viral in March 2017, apparently showing a man swallowed whole by a python in Sulawesi.

“It would be dangerous if we don’t move it. Then later there could have been children who could be victims, like in Sulawesi,” Sumantara said.

Tribun Bali’s report did not mention what Sumantara will be doing with the snake, but we hope he hands it over to Denpasar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) so they can safely relocate the snake.

Pythons are not uncommon in Bali. Every so often, Denpasar residents seem to discover pythons hiding out in their roofs.

A security guard was strangled by a 4.5 meter python when trying to capture it near a luxury hotel on the island back in 2013.
