Kuta Police held a reenactment on Monday of an assault case involving a German national outside of Paddy’s Pub in Kuta.
The alleged March 21 assault ultimately resulted in the death of North Sumatran man SD, 49, who died four days into being hospitalized.
In a series of scenes, police made their suspect, German man, GL, 21, demonstrate beating SD and knocking him down to the pavement in front of the popular nightclub.
Police say GL was triggered into fighting SD because the North Sumatran had tried to punch him and missed, so GL instinctively hit back.
“At the scene, the victim tried but failed to hit the suspect. While spontaneously, the suspect hit the victim in response, using his left hand to strike the victim’s jaw,” Kuta Police Commissioner Wayan Sumara said, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
Next in the reenactment, GL fled the scene, leaving the victim lying on the sidewalk and got into a taxi in front of Sky Garden.
Local media previously reported that prior to GL knocking SD down, there had been an altercation inside Paddy’s Pub between GL and SD’s friend, W. The altercation was broken up by club security, who seemed to have had GL and W reconcile and shake hands. GL went back into the club, but instead of leaving, W and SD waited outside for the German and that’s when things took a turn for the worst, with SD trying to hit GL.
When the German beat SD to the ground, the North Sumatran was rendered unconscious and was bleeding from the nose, police told reporters.
The German was arrested two days after the incident, on March 23, police said.
