A 57-year-old man was arrested on charges of raping a 10-year-old boy dozens of times in Badung regency, police say, in one of the most horrific child sexual abuse cases in Bali in recent times.

According to the police, on Feb. 8, the victim, identified by his initials AF, came home in the evening complaining about pain in his anus to his mother. He then told her that a middle-aged man, identified only as Fadli, had raped him dozens of times.

AF’s mother reported Fadli to the police, leading to his arrest soon after.

“Based on the victim’s testimony, the culprit abused the victim numerous times — 44 times, as the victim recalls,” Badung Police spokesman Oka Bawa told reporters yesterday, as quoted by Radar Bali.

To the police, Oka said Fadli confessed to raping AF 25 times.

The victim is reportedly going to undergo therapy facilitated by the Badung Social Agency to overcome his physical and mental traumas.

Fadli was charged with sexual abuse on a minor and, under Indonesia’s Child Protection Law, may face up to 15 years in prison.
