A German national, identified by his initials OP, caused quite a ruckus at a minimart (convenience store) in Ubud yesterday, while he was allegedly intoxicated. The foreigner was later arrested by local authorities, who suspected that he might also be depressed.
Ubud Police Chief Nuryana told local media outlets that OP was apprehended at around 4pm yesterday, following an incident at a minimart. The minimart’s manager, identified as I Made Agus Sudita, received a phone call from his employees at around 2pm about a foreigner who took five bottles of beer without paying.
“He then exited the store and drank two bottles of beer, but the three others were taken back by the store employees. However, when he finished his beer, he tried to get into the minimart once again to take more drinks, but the employee closed the glass door on him,” Nuryana said, as quoted by Detik.
“There was a bit of push and pull there, but then he managed to break the glass door,” he continued.
When staff from a nearby gas station noticed what was happening, they proceeded to help by tying OP’s hands and ankles with plastic rope, as they feared he might pose a danger to others in the area.
A video of him lying on the ground while tied in front of the minimart has been circulating on social media since yesterday.
