On the eve of the major Balinese holiday Galungan, police are accepting help from pecalang in securing the island.
In addition to monitoring ceremonial processions, pecalang, the island’s traditional security, will also guard popular public attractions.
“Security will be set at tourist attractions. In vulnerable places like Kuta, Pandawa Beach, and Sanur,” Bali Police spokesman AA Made Sudana told Tribun Bali.
Water Police will also secure the coasts, Sudana added.

Galungan is the Balinese feast holiday that falls twice a year to celebrate the triumph of good (dharma) over evil (adharma) and is followed ten days later by Kuningan. Galungan this year is on September 7, while Kuningan is September 17.
Pecalang working closely with police is the norm for Bali’s Hindu calendar holidays.
