North Bali Police push patrols targeting turtle egg thieves

With theft of sea turtles egg becoming increasingly widespread in North Bali, Buleleng Police are intensifying their patrols across the northern coast.

Buleleng Police Chief I Made Sukawijaya said on Thursday that he’s gotten reports of turtle egg stealing from within his regency, that encompasses 150 kilometers of Bali’s coastline.

Sukawijaya explained that police have been working with fishermen to help keep an eye out and prevent further theft and to ensure North Bali’s sea turtles are allowed to hatch without getting removed from their natural habitat.

“Fishermen will continue to be involved so that turtles can hatch safely,” he told Antara Bali.

“Endangered sea turtles should be protected and kept together. If people are found stealing turtles and their eggs, there are sanctions waiting for them,” Sukawijaya added.

“I have ordered Buleleng Police’s Water Patrol Division to guard the area. We will not hesitate to arrest the perpetrators of turtle poaching in the future.”
