The Bali Police have arrested a man from Gianyar regency in a revenge porn case, with authorities saying that the man and his victim had been in a relationship when the latter was still underage.

The 20-year-old suspect, identified by his initials KM, was charged with violation of articles from the Information and Electronic Transactions Act (UU ITE), the anti-pornography law, and the child protection law. He is facing a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Police say that KM demanded IDR10 million (US$680) from the victim and threatened to spread their intimate videos online if she refused. KM was reportedly jealous after finding out that the victim was in a relationship with another man.

When the victim refused to give him money, KM allegedly hacked into the victim’s Facebook account and uploaded a number of sexually explicit screenshots from their private videos, which went viral.

The victim filed a police report soon after, leading to KM’s arrest earlier this week. Police seized his phone and laptop, which contained intimate photos and videos recorded back in 2018, when the victim, whose current age has not been disclosed, was still underage.

“At the time, the victim was lured by promises to pay her school fees. Because of that the victim agreed to have sex and be filmed,” Yuliar Kus Nugroho, who heads the special crimes investigation unit at Bali Police, said in a statement.
