A 54-year-old fisherman who went missing off Buleleng for more than 24 hours was found safe and sound after he held on to a rumpon (fish aggregating device).

Made Subagia, who lives in Bungkulan Village in Sawan District, Buleleng, went fishing at 3am yesterday but did not return even after night fell.

Bali’s Search and Rescue Agency dispatched a team to look for him at 6am today after receiving the report. An hour before the agency began their search, several fishermen had already embarked on their own quest to find Made.

Thankfully, Made was found on a rumpon by a fellow fisherman who volunteered for the mission. He was reportedly located 13.8 nautical miles from the ex-Buleleng seaport.

Local outlets reported that Made’s jukung (traditional wooden boat) suddenly capsized and sank while he went fishing. Luckily, he managed to swim toward the nearest rumpon while waiting to be rescued. While he was understandably fatigued upon being rescued, Made was not reported to have suffered major injuries.

Made and his rescuers arrived at Lukluk Beach, Bungkulan Village at 9:42am and was immediately returned to his family.
