An Indonesian truck driver was arrested in Bali over the weekend for impersonating a military officer.

After arrested at Bali’s Mengwi Bus Terminal, Pipin Aston, 38, told police he was sporting an Air Force uniform so he could speed up his trip.

Traveling from Java to Bali, as Pipin was doing, requires going through an inspection at Gilimanuk Harbor—a step that Pipin was allegedly able to bypass with his uniform.

“The team managed to secure the fake Air Force man. He explained he was wearing the full Air Force uniform because he wanted to quicken his journey from Java to Bali,” head of Badung Police Rescue Unit Chief Comr. Joko Hariyadi told Tribun Bali on Saturday.

Fairan said that police did a check on Pipin to make sure he was not an active member of the Air Force.

Police initially suspected Pipin was using the uniform to covertly transport drugs, but upon investigation, could not find any trace of narcotics.

“The team has checked, but no drugs were found. From the interrogation, he had brought the rental car three times from Malang to Bali. Our party is still developing the case, coordinating with Air Force Headquarters,” Fairan said.
