Muhammad Toha, an Indonesian jet ski instructor who allegedly sexually assaulted a Chinese tourist in Bali in April, has been sentenced to seven years in prison, after he was found guilty of violating Indonesia’s Criminal Code (KUHP).

The panel of judges at the Denpasar Court announced yesterday that Toha was found guilty of violating Article 289 of KUHP on sexual assault. The sentence they gave Toha was significantly longer than the prosecutor’s 5-year sentencing demand, as reported by Tribun-Bali.

The incident allegedly took place in April when the victim got on a jet ski with Toha sitting behind her as a guide in the waters off Tanjung Benoa in Nusa Dua.

According to prosecutors, Toha harassed the Chinese tourist multiple times while they were on the jet ski, with him initially starting to kiss her on the lips without her consent, and reportedly going so far as to grope her breasts and forcing her to touch his genitals once they were far away from everyone else.

The victim immediately reported the incident to the police after the ride, which led to Toha’s arrest less than 24 hours after the incident.
