The body of a Balinese middle school student who had been missing since Sunday afternoon was discovered yesterday morning by a local resident. The search is finally over for Kediri middle school student Kadek Rea Dwi Andika, who went missing after she went to bathe at Pangkung Tibah Beach on Sunday.

According to a report by Nusa Bali, the girl had been bathing in the shallows with a group of friends when she was dragged out to sea by strong waves. Her school friend, I Putu Agus Mahendra, 13, also disappeared momentarily, though he was later seen waving for help in the middle of the sea, around 50 meters from the beach. With the help of some local surfers, called from nearby Kedungu beach, Mahendra was rescued, but Andika disappeared into the waves.

Despite regional police and search and rescue teams being called onto the scene, the girl remained missing until 6:41am yesterday morning, when she was found by local resident Wayan Sukaja, as reported by Jawa Pos.

The body was discovered washed up on the beach, not far from where the girl was bathing the day before. The Tabanan Search and Rescue team was alerted and the girl’s body was taken to Tabanan Regional General Hospital for examination before arriving at the victim’s family home at around 7:30am.

“The condition of the body was swollen and slightly decayed,” explained the victim’s mother Dwi Lestari to the source while crying. Due to the state of the body, the family said that they could not allow it to linger for long at the family home before the funeral. “We must carry out the Ngaben (funeral) ceremony today,” Lestari said to Jawa Pos yesterday.
