Bali police stop rooster trafficking plot

Police in west Bali port Gilimanuk, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle in 40 roosters.

The birds were stopped by seaport crossing officers at 1:30 am in the morning.

Gilimanuk is the main Bali crossing point from Java.

Gilimanuk Police Comr. Anak Agung Gede Arka confirmed the rooster trafficking plot to local media, explaining that the roosters weren’t equipped the proper official health certificates of quarantine.

“The birds will be submitted to the Agriculture Quarantine Institute in Gilimanuk,” Tribun Bali quoted Arka as saying.

Roosters are prized possessions in Bali, where cockfighting is ubiquitous
