A man from Tabanan regency may face legal consequences after he allegedly spread naked photos of his ex-girlfriend in yet another revenge porn case motivated by the demise of a relationship in Indonesia.
The man, identified by his initials DA, was reported by his ex-girlfriend, identified as 18-year-old NKMA, to the Tabanan Police last Saturday. DA and NKMA reportedly dated for quite some time before the latter asked to end their relationship. Unable to move on, DA threatened NKMA that he’d spread a number of her naked pictures that he kept.
Aji Yoga Sekar, who heads Tabanan Police’s Crime Investigation Unit, said that DA carried out his threat, which prompted NKMA to report him to the police. DA may be prosecuted under Indonesia’s strict anti-ponography laws.
“At the moment, our investigation is heading in that direction, questioning the witnesses, and securing evidence,” Aji said.
DA may be charged with spreading pornography under Indonesia’s Information and Electronic Transactions Act (UU ITE), which carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison or a fine of IDR1 billion (US$69,630).
