The man who had posted photos of himself on Facebook posing with a toy gun, claiming it was an AK-47, has been sentenced to three months prison by a Bali court.
Balinese man I Ketut Sri Subawa, aka Wibawa, was handed three months by a panel of judges on Tuesday after the viral photos had lead police to find that the 37-year-old had a sketchy stockpile of bladed weapons reportedly including spears, swords, and knives at home.
Sharing the pictures to Facebook in April 2017, Wibawa captioned the post “for fun”. Months later, police decided to raid his home in November after the photos went viral, only to find that the gun in the pictures was not a deadly assault rifle, but instead a toy gun–they had initially declared it was an airsoft gun after the raid but turns out it was only a toy.
But even though the gun was apparently just a toy, the bladed weapons ended up getting him in trouble.
The sentence was a tad shorter than the five months that prosecutors had demanded—the prosecution had apparently really meant to teach him a lesson.
“It was proven in trial that the defendant was in possession of bladed weapons. Carrying a knife. While the gun he called a firearm on Facebook was not proven as an airsoft gun. It was just a toy,” Bali prosecutor Made Dipa Umbara said in court on Tuesday, as quoted by Bali Post.
Wibawa was sentenced under the Indonesian Emergency Act of 1951, article 2 which covers unlawful transport, possession, and concealment of “stabbing weapons.”
