Last week, we reported the story about a sex tape going viral featuring a man and a woman in Bali, with the latter wearing a tridatu bracelet. Well, police have arrested the person who leaked the video online: the man in the clip himself.
The video sparked outrage among locals, in part because the bracelet is a sacred symbol of Hinduism in Bali.
During their investigation, police first identified the woman in the video, MPS. During questioning, MPS told the cops that she had no idea that the video was leaked online and, as a victim in the scandal, she filed a report on April 25 on the grounds of defamation of character.
The Bali Police announced today that they arrested the male actor in the video, ABU, 25, on April 26. To the authorities, ABU admitted that the video was taken in 2020 in a hotel room in Denpasar.
ABU confessed to spreading the video via Telegram without the consent of MPS. This appears to be a revenge porn case as ABU said he uploaded the video after MPS ended their 5-year relationship and had refused to talk to him.
“The ex-boyfriend was offended and threatened to share his video collection,” Bali Police Special Crimes Unit Chief Nanang Prihasmoko said, adding that ABU had contacted MPS via WhatsApp to make his intention clear.
Under Indonesian law, ABU may face a maximum of 12 years behind bars and be fined IDR1 billion (US$67,912) if he is found guilty of making and distributing pornography.
