Police in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have arrested a 17-year-old former contestant of The Voice Indonesia for alleged physical assault against her own mother. The incident was captured on video and has been circulating widely on social media since yesterday.

“The suspect was a contestant in The Voice Indonesia, but she didn’t win,” NTT Police spokesman, Johannes Bangun, told Detik.

Police said that the incident began when the teenager, identified by her initials TH, became impatient with her mother, identified by her initials AH, for not fulfilling her request right away. TH had asked her mother to help her pack, but AH was cooking at the time and told her to wait.

They got into a fight, which escalated to TH hitting AH with her fist and then kicking her in the head.

According to a report from Detik, TH’s sibling then called on a neighbor to help break them up. A witness had filmed the incident and posted it on their Facebook account, causing it to go viral.

Authorities were then alerted to the incident, and TH was subsequently arrested.

“We have detained her at the Kupang police station to process the case according to applicable laws. The victim and suspect are mother and daughter,” Johannes said.
