An American man died from a high fall at a hotel in Petitenget, North Kuta this morning, with police launching an investigation into the incident.

Two hotel security guards said they were carrying out their night patrol around the premises when they heard a thud on the ground floor at 12:40am. When they went to the source of the sound, they found 48-year-old JDB face down on the floor, lifeless and with blood oozing out of his head.

“At the time, [JDB] was already dead. The incident was immediately reported to the police,” a source from the police station said.

Police reviewed hotel CCTV footage and found JDB walking aimlessly on the balcony of his hotel room shortly before the fall. His room is situated on the sixth floor of the hotel, or some 25 meters from the ground floor.

“It looked like he was walking like he was intoxicated. We are waiting on the result of the investigation,” the source said.

On Feb. 8, police launched an investigation into the death of another American national, 62-year-old SKC, who was found dead by the staff at the Kuta villa where he stayed. Police have not determined his cause of death.
