Controversial celebrity Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor and her husband are being investigated by the police again, this time for allegedly crossing into Negeri Sembilan from Selangor to buy carpets.
The 32-year-old and her Islamic preacher husband Harris Ismail, 26, were seen at the Naeem Carpet store in Nilai on Sunday, via photos uploaded to Neelofa’s Instagram account, just days after the couple were slapped with fines. Interstate travel is still banned in Malaysia as part of coronavirus safety rules.
“The investigation paper will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor after the investigation is completed,” police chief Mohd Fazley Ab Rahman said yesterday.
“Police advise the public to comply with the Conditional Movement Control Order. Failure to comply with this order allows for action to be taken in accordance with the provisions of the law that is still in force,” he added. Under the Conditional Movement Control Order, or CMCO, people are not allowed to travel between states without formal permission from the police.
Those online appear to be getting frustrated at Neelofa’s purported disregard for coronavirus measures, particularly since she had just been fined RM20,000 (US$4500) over the lack of safe distancing at her lavish wedding, and subsequently going jet-skiing on Langkawi island. Harris was also fined RM10,000 (US$2,500) over the post-wedding trip.
TV actor Azwan Ali, aka Diva AA, was among those who criticized the couple, calling them the “worst couple ever” in a tweet.
“BUYING CARPETS AT NILAI 3 NOW?? WORST COUPLE EVER TO CROSS STATES! THAT IS ENOUGH!” he said.
Twitter user @kuntommm chimed in: “Am I the only one who is annoyed with Neelofa? She loves uploading Instagram stories that would get herself in trouble, if she wanted to buy carpets, she didn’t need to show it off for controversy.”
