Malaysian entrepreneur Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor along with her family have been slapped with fines totalling RM60,000 (US$15,000) for breaching COVID-19 safety measures.
Neelofa was fined the most with RM20,000 while her husband Haris Ismail, aka PU Riz, was fined RM10,000, about a month after both of them held a wedding attended by guests who were not socially distanced and traveled across states to Langkawi island where the couple had fun going on cable car rides as part of a work trip by bubble tea chain Chatime.
Neelofa was charged for offenses linked to the wedding and the island trip, while the charge against her husband was linked to the trip.
Twenty of Neelofa’s family members were also fined RM1,500 each for violating safe distancing measures and failing to ensure that guests complied with the rule during the March 27 wedding at Kuala Lumpur’s Grand Hyatt hotel.
Photos of the wedding ceremony showed about 200 guests sitting very close to each other, with some not wearing masks. Guests included Minister of Religious Affairs Zulkifli Al-Bakri, who was not investigated by the police.
