App-based motorcycle taxi (colloquially known as ojol) rides are about to get slightly more expensive in the Jabodetabek region (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi), with the government mandating a price hike that will come into effect on March 16.
The Transportation Ministry announced the price hike for the region today, which will see the minimum tariff rise by IDR250 per kilometer and the maximum tariff rise by IDR150 per kilometer.
“The minimum tariff will be IDR2,250 per kilometer from IDR 2,000 previously, while the maximum tariff will rise from IDR2,500 per kilometer to IDR2,650 per kilometer,” the ministry’s Road Transportation Director Budi Setiyadi said, as quoted by Kontan.
As such, the actual tariff of any given ride will fall within the minimum-maximum range depending on demand.
Furthermore, the ministry has raised the minimum fare for each ride to between IDR9,000 and IDR10,500, up from IDR8,000-IDR10,000 previously.
The ministry said that the ojol tariff will be subject to annual review.
“The economic growth in Jakarta is rapid, and we’ve been listening to the aspirations of drivers, so we reviewed the tariff,” Budi said.
