A 51-year-old man was killed following an aggravated assault incident in jail, police said, after other inmates learned that he was arrested on suspicion of molesting his own daughter numerous times.
The victim, AR, was booked into the Depok Metro Police detention center last week. During visitation, one inmate, PAN, heard from AR’s wife that he had molested their young daughter.
“I heard it straight from [AR’s] wife. My friends soon heard about it too,” PAN told reporters during a press conference for the case today.
“I was livid.”
Yesterday, PAN, along with seven other inmates, assaulted AR in his cell. Though the assailants mostly used their fists, police noted that they also beat AR with a PVC pipe.
AR was left unconscious before he was transported to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead soon after arrival.
The eight assailants were charged with aggravated assault that led to death, which is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
