Yangon night market now also partially a morning market

Starting from today, Yangon’s new night market will also operate in the morning from 6am to 11am.

However, not all of the market’s 1600 vendors will be allowed to sell in the a.m. The new hours are only for the 250 stalls that sell dry goods and foodstuff, including fresh produce such as fish, meat, fruits, and vegetables.

“We’re not giving permission to the fruit vendors who sell at night. This is only for the vendors from Lanmadaw who sell in the morning,” YCDC’s Department of Planning deputy Nyi Nyi Oo told Mizzima.

Although the market was created to help reduce traffic jams downtown, several vendors have complained that its small stall spaces and location — it stretches along Strand Road from from Kyauktada to Lanmadaw township — have been hurting business.

In the afternoon/evening, the market is open from 3pm to 11pm. At this point, why do we even keep calling it a night market?
