Shwedagon Pagoda trustees awaiting police instruction to ramp up security

U Htun Aung Ngwe, a member of the Shwedagon Pagoda board of trustees, said the board is prepared to increase security measures at the pagoda in accordance with police instructions, reported The Voice.

Shwedagod Pagoda already features 100 CCTV cameras and 300 security officers, and polices from various townships patrol the pagoda from 10pm to 4am.

U Htun Aung Ngwe said: “We previously had only one night patrol, but now we send them out four times every night.”

Drones are restricted near Shwedagon Pagoda to ensure its security, and vinyl posters are posed around the pagoda outlining restricted behavior.
