Magwe Region was rattled by a 5.3 magnitude eathquake on Monday – the latest to shake Myanmar in recent months.
The quake struck Pakokku township at around 4:30pm, according to the Metereology and Hydrology department.
Kyaw Moe Oo, the department’s deputy manager, said the epicenter was about 10 miles southwest of the township.
No damage was reported, police told 7Day.
Several earthquakes have stuck Myanmar since the start of the year, including one measuring a 6.9 on the Richter scale in April.
Despite the tremor’s strength, its intermediate depth meant that little damage was caused, though patients and staff fled Yangon Hospital in fear after the building shook.
Yangon urban experts have warned about the city’s low capacity to handle a significant quake.
A report published last month revealed a faultline situated in the Myanmar-Bangladesh-India border area which has the potential to cause a tremor of a similar scale to the one which shook Japan in 2011.
