Insein Prison inmate escapes custody

According to the Insein Township police station, a male prisoner who was sentenced to 40 years in prison for drug-related crimes escaped custoday at around 2am on November 10 while receiving treatment at Insein Hospital.

The fugitive, Kyi Aye (aka Mawsi), 51, had been receiving treatment for fistula disease since October 26.

An officer from the Insein Township police station said: “He escaped because the police were careless. We saw the chains on his bed but not on him this morning. We are going to take action against those who were careless.”

Before he was imprisoned, Kyi Aye lived in Ward 5 of South Okkalapa Township, where police are now searching for him.

Another prisoner named Naing Lynn Zaw, 29, escaped from Insein Prison on October 6 and remains at large. He was serving time for murder.
