Deadly fire in Yangon razes homes, kills 9-year-old

A nine-year-old girl is dead and dozens of people homeless after a blaze swept through Yangon’s North Okkalapa Township in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The fire broke out in Tathalingyeik ward at around 12:40am after an electrical wire overheated, according to state-run newspaper the Global New Light of Myanmar.

The flames spread rapidly through the narrow streets, destroying homes belonging to eight families before the more than 150 firefighters deployed could put them out.
