One of the 13 victims of a fire that raged through a Yangon plywood factory last night has died in Insein hospital, police have told Coconuts Yangon.
“He died earlier this morning from injuries in the fire,” said a Shwepyithar police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The fire spread quickly after sparks from a boiler explosion fell onto sawdust and plywood in the blast radius, according to local media reports.

About two dozen fire trucks responded to the blaze in Shwepyithar Township, according to the Yangon Fire Services Department Facebook page.
The fire-fighting effort, which began at about 7:30pm, was live-streamed by the Yangon Fire Services on Facebook, in a video that has since been shared nearly 4,500 times.
Sirens can be heard blaring in the video as a motorcade of fire trucks races to the Wartayar Industrial Zone on Seikanthar road, where the factory is located.
According to a firefighter at Shwepyitar Fire Station, while the fire spread quickly, it remained mostly contained to areas where large piles of plywood had been stored.
“The fire spread fast because the glue used to make plywood is extremely flammable,” the firefighter told Coconuts Yangon over the phone.
