New Rangoon Tea House will have toddy palm themed cocktail bar

If you haven’t heard yet, beloved Myanmar eatery Rangoon Tea House is moving. Just downstairs, but still…

The owners tell us, however, that the move will bring some additional surprises.

As well as the creative Myanmar dishes that we have come to expect from RTH, there will be, among other things, a new cocktail bar.

For those of us who frequent the tea house as often for their inventive cocktails (chai-infused mojitos? genius) this is very exciting news.

The Toddy Bar, inspired by plantations near Bagan, will launch in the coming weeks.

Here’s the full statement from the management:

“The final day is today [Monday] and we close 1-4th. We will reopen downstairs on Saturday hopefully. Firstly, we want to thank all the patrons that have supported us in the last 2 years.

“About a year ago we realized that we needed to expand the restaurant beyond our current capacity. Saying that, we also want to be at the forefront of what we see as the new age of change in the country and so we decided that staying on Pansodan [Road] in a heritage building was the best thing we could do.

“People can expect a very special place downstairs. What we lose upstairs, we gain in quality of ambiance, food and atmosphere downstairs. The new Rangoon Tea House will soft launch first with The Toddy Bar, an exotic cocktail bar, inspired by the Toddy Palm plantations up near Bagan, launching later on in the month.”
