Since the trailer dropped for the highly anticipated film adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians, reactions from the very people living in the plot’s setting (Singapore, BTW) have been… mixed.

Sure, it’s awesome to see a major Hollywood film featuring an all-Asian cast, but the bulk of the criticism revolved around how the movie might misrepresent Singapore to the world. The ironic lack of diversity (Singaporeans are more than just people of East Asian descent) and the absence of our Singlish patois was brought up.

This parody video goes out to all those who weren’t happy about characters in the film speaking in American accents. Chortle in your teh tariks as the Crazy Rich Asians speak Crazy Strong Singlish in this overdubbed trailer, courtesy of Stirr.

For those still triggered enough about how the movie might distort reality here, check out what someone who actually grew up among the hyper-affluent in Singapore had to say about its accuracy.
