For selling shisha on seven occasions without a proper licence, two restaurants on Arab Street were fined a total amount of $12,300. According to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), both eateries had their tobacco retail licences taken away in 2014 after they committed tobacco-related offences. Undeterred, they continued selling shisha illegally from September to November 2014.

Yesterday, Rupesh Kumar Singh was fined $10,500 for his Nasrin Restaurant at 58 Arab Street, as well as $1,800 for Sufi Corner at 56 Arab Street — the latter is also owned by him under a separate company.

If you recall, the shisha ban in Singapore came into effect on Nov 28, 2014, but existing tobacco importers and retailers were allowed to continue selling shisha to deplete their stocks until Jul 31 last year.
