The shirtless buffoon and his friends who filmed themselves on Snapchat causing damage to bike-sharing bicycles are believed to have been arrested by the authorities, following a statement made by the police today.

In case you missed our report, the video that made its rounds on social media and sparked outrage among netizens showcased a shirtless man throwing what seemed to be a two-wheeler belonging to bike-sharing startup oBike into a canal. He was subsequently filmed riding a yellow ofo bike in the premises of Punggol MRT station and bus interchange (nearly colliding with a bus, even).

After the police received a report about the incident, four teens aged between 16 and 18 were arrested on Monday; the police have stated that investigations are ongoing.

The arrest is far from the first case of bike abuse here ever since bike-sharing concept was introduced in the city. Over the past week and beyond, there have been a continuous stream of images and videos on social media of users deliberately damaging the bikes for reasons yet unknown. Just last week, a 13-year-old was arrested after a video surfaced online showing an ofo bike tossed off the 30th storey of a flat in Jalan Tenteram.

But really, it’s sad to see Singaporeans taking something good for granted, as the bike-sharing concept has been growing in popularity here, providing convenience to folks who want or need an alternative form of commuting.

If convicted for rash act, the suspects face up to six months’ jail, a fine of up to $2,500, or both. In addition, suspects face a $1,000 fine if convicted of causing public nuisance.
