Pick up a new life skill or hobby through one of nearly 100 workshops by struggling local businesses now being promoted by telco Circles.Life through its mobile platform.

Those interested can sign up for anything from leather crafting to perfume making via the “Discover” category of the Circles.Life mobile app, which is accessible to everyone including non-subscribers. Some of the activities by the 28 partnering businesses are offered at discounted prices.

The digital mobile telco’s foray into lifestyle offerings comes after the Singapore Tourism Board launched a S$45 million campaign promoting domestic tourism, which includes subsidies for local businesses to provide attractive deals and promotions.

The activities, some of which run through the end of the year, cover arts and crafts, culinary, fitness, and beauty. Participants can create their own scents with fragrance company Oo La Lab, brew kombucha with local brewery Kombynation, craft leather wallets with Maketh Project, or even learn tarot reading.

Expect another 400 activities to be added to the platform by November.

None of the activities involve hunting animals like wild boars, which several people signed up to do earlier this week thinking that it was a legitimate event. Around 200 people said they were either interested or attending the event, which later turned out to be a marketing ploy to promote Circles.Life’s “Discover Fun” campaign.

“Hi everyone, bet we got you again! We can’t believe you actually thought we organized a wild boar catching workshop,” it said Tuesday. “To keep you on your toes we’ve put together fun activities you can do every weekend, with the official launch of Discover Fun today!”

The app is available for download on iOS and Android.
