Looks like KFC is finally jumping on board the chicken and waffle trend (if we can even call it that). The fast food chain is a little late to the game though, since this dish has appeared on the menus of cafes all over the country for the last few years.
But hey, the combination remains a popular one, and KFC is putting a “twist” on its classic, topping its Original Recipe boneless chicken fillet on a Belgian waffle with a dash of creamy sauce. The announcement, which was posted on Facebook over the weekend, showed a slight variation from the maple syrup-drizzled one that launched in the US last year.
In the online sphere, responses were divided, with some praising the introduction of the new dish, and others asking for the return of favorites like Hot Devil Drumlets and Double Down.
Meanwhile, several netizens were already anticipating potential regret.
As with all things fast food, don’t expect too much for what you’re paying. Still, we won’t be surprised if queues start forming when KFC debuts this at its outlets tomorrow.
[Update: Looks like the fast food chain’s teaser turned out to be the new KFC Waffle Double Down ($6.95), with two fried chicken fillets sandwiching a Belgium waffle made saucy with maple mayo. It may not be the chicken and waffles we asked for, but it’s the one we’re getting.]
