Filipino fans of Korean dramas won’t be able to keep their hearts from fluttering when they rub elbows with Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo star Lee Sung-kyung in July.

The actress will be coming to Manila for a fan meet on July 27, Saturday, event organizer CDM Entertainment announced in a tweet last night.

Titled Be Joyful, the event will be held in SM City North EDSA’s Skydome in Quezon City at 6pm. Ticket selling starts on May 31, Friday and will be available at SM Ticket outlets and on the SM Tickets website.

Tickets are priced at HP8,500 (US$162.20), PHP6,500 (US$124.03), and PHP4,000 (US$76.33)

Lee has starred in a number of Korean dramas including Cheese in the TrapThe Doctors, and most recently in last year’s About Time, but she’s most popular for her role as the titular weightlifter in the 2016 hit Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo.

The light romantic comedy about childhood friends-turned-college lovers initially did not get high ratings in South Korea but it was well-loved by young and international viewers. It was such a hit among Filipinos that the question “Do you like Messi?” — a reference to one of the show’s plotlines — went viral on Philippine Twitter.

The show remains popular today and still has a passionate Filipino fanbase. Lee’s Weightlifting Fairy on-screen partner Nam Joo-hyuk was in Manila for a fan meet in July last year, when some of his supporters were called out for touching his hands and body despite warnings against it.
