Muslims in the state of Selangor are quickly using up all available plots in cemeteries, prompting the administration of Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to step in and allocating another 20 hectares of land for the purpose of burying the dead.
Azmin told Sinar Harian today that at current rates, Selangor would have just another two or three years before all the burial plots in the state’s Muslim cemeteries would be filled up.
Among the cemeteries nearing peak occupancy are those in Jalan Enggang, AU4, Taman Sri Keramat, and Kampung Hulu Kelang, all serving districts which lie adjacent to the heavily-populated Kuala Lumpur metropolitan area.
“The state government has taken proactive measures to provide new plots of land for use as cemeteries, and the process is going ahead well,” Azmin said yesterday.
“By mid-April, the gazetting of these new cemeteries should be concluded, and they will be open to use by residents throughout the Hulu Kelang area.”
